Job Description: Overview Responsibilities Woodis currently recruiting for a Senior Consultant Waste Engineering in our London office to join the Waste Management team.WoodEnvironment Infrastructure UK Ltd is a leading multi-disciplinary environmental consultancy working across a great many sectors. We are growing across the business and the business plan within the waste services sector is to grow turnover through winning more and higher value projects.Our consultants can work across all areas of waste as required, but for this role initially the key aims are to:Contribute to the growth of the waste services income;Maintain and increase customer satisfaction; andBuild capacity in the service to widen its experience and capabilities.To fulfil these aims the post-holders objectives will be to:Lead and contribute to the development of high quality successful proposals that meet our strategic and financial objectives;Use the post-holders skills, experience and expertise to make high quality contributions to projects;Deliver projects and the post-holders contributions to them on time and within allotted timescales;Mentor and guide colleagues to build their capacity to deliver projects and widen their personal capabilities; andUse existing contacts and networks to maintain close relationships with clients and potential clients and develop business.The range of projects the post-holder could expect to contribute to include:Supporting procurement exercises including assessing contract extension proposals, developing tender specifications and associated documentation and evaluating bidder submissions or working with bidders to develop their proposals;The development of business cases to support the delivery of services differently whether that be through a change of collection method or service management model for example; andThe analysis of the composition of waste and the statistical manipulation of data to provide representative waste profiles. Waste collection services reviews to analyse the effectiveness and efficiency of existing services to identify improvements and savings for clients;The identification and performance and cost modelling of alternative waste collection scenarios and assessing any consequential impacts on contracts, infrastructure, budgets, performance and customers;Therefore, the post-holder can expect to undertake numeric and statistical/modelling work alongside qualitative assessment and presentation of information in various formats.Prime Responsibilities and DutiesManage projects: applying our internal procedures ensuring that projects are well monitored, delivered on-time and within budget with high client satisfaction ratings;Act as technical expert providing input in to a range of waste and environment-related projects. This will include taking responsibility for the drafting of whole reports (with input from others) or contributing aspects as directed;Attend meetings with clients from inception stage to final reporting. Such meetings may be attended by a range of stakeholders and clients including Council officers, members and frontline staff, private sector representatives from a number of sectors and other organisations such as WRAP and Defra;Lead and support the development of proposals ensuring they are of a high quality, clear and competitive;Develop services and task delivery methodologies that are innovative, robust, time and cost effective and client focussed;Maintain relationships with existing clients, potential clients and other networks to maintain and increase the profile of the company and to develop work pipelines Skills Qualifications ExperienceEssentialA minimum of five years experience of the local authority waste management environment playing a role in the delivery of in-house or outsourced service deliveryAn understanding of waste and recycling management systemsUnderstanding of waste legislation and policy in the UKProcurement of waste management servicesExperience of working with Officers and elected members at a senior levelAn understanding of local authority governance, pressures, constraints and opportunitiesAn understanding of waste strategies and the options available to implement themThe analysis of operational and financial data to identify and understand the root causes of issues and developing solutionsModelling of waste collection services understanding the processes, inputs, calculations and outputs and with excellent numerical, data handling and spreadsheet skills using Microsoft ExcelHigh levels of written and verbal communication skills and confident delivery of presentationsAbility to deal proactively with senior colleaguesGood time management skills, including the ability to respond to requests for outputs at short notice.
